St. Michael the Archangel

Eucharist

First Communion is an important tradition for Catholic families and individuals. Traditions of celebration surrounding First Communion usually include large family gatherings and parties to celebrate the event. The first communicant wears special clothing, often white to symbolize purity. Often, a girl wears a fancy dress and a veil while boys may wear a suit and tie, or their Sunday best.

Catholics believe the Eucharist, or Communion, is both a sacrifice and a meal. We believe in the real presence of Jesus, who died for our sins. As we receive Christ's Body and Blood, we also are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God.

If your child is ready to begin preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, you may fill out the form below or contact the parish office at (941) 349-4174 to make arrangements.  Please note that in the Diocese of Venice, Bishop Frank Dewane has mandated the Religious Education and "Sacramental Preparation" programs for children receiving First Communion or Confirmation will be a two year process. The Sacrament of First Communion is usually celebrated in the Second Grade.
